Improve the Quality of Your Life

In today’s 50 hour work week culture, it is quite common for people to feel discontent about life. A lot of people go through life aimlessly and treat it like rigmarole. The following are a few basic steps you can try in order to improve the quality of your life.

  • Have a goal

Take time out to set a goal for yourself. A goal gives you a sense of purpose in life. Once you have identified your goal, draw out a plan and periodic check points to review your progress. Involve a spouse or friend in this plan to help you stay motivated.

  • Have a hobby

Don’t let work dictate your life. Pick up a hobby. Set aside some time every week to pursue to your hobby. A lot of people start a hobby but grow lazy or lose interest after a couple of months. Don’t let that happen to you. If you feel you need motivation, join a local club for some group activities.

  • Maintain a journal/blog

Maintain a diary or journal. Putting your feelings down in writing can help beat stress and also identify new facets of your personality. If you are tech savvy start a blog. But remember that the blog should be a true indication of your personality and not something to increase readership. Otherwise it loses its purpose of improving the quality of your life.

  • Don’t ignore the little things in life

Simple things in life like taking a walk with your dog, playing with your children or listening to your favorite music are small but important aspects of our lives. These little activities give us moments of contentment which add up to have a big impact on the quality of our lives.

  • Go back to your dreams

Most of us had big dreams while growing up. Some of us may have wanted to travel to an exotic destination or learn a musical instrument. Sadly a lot of our childhood dreams get buried under hectic schedules and lifestyles. It is never too late to go back to those dreams. Sit back and think of something that you really wanted to do but never got around to. Make a plan, take time off and get working on it. While this might seem like a simple activity it can have a positive impact on you.

  • Be open minded

A positive outlook can change the way you look at life. While staying positive in all situations can be an up hill task, being open minded is a start. Learn to take criticism in a positive manner. When someone criticizes you, take a minute to think how their comments can help you improve yourself.

  • Try new things

Whether its books, music, food, holiday spots or clothes, experiment and keep trying new things. Don’t be afraid to experiment. Sticking to the tried and tested can be a safe bet but also boring.

Improving the quality of your life lies entirely in your hands. Taking the initiative and giving up in a few months is a common mistake made by people. Change cannot happen over night. Put in some time and effort and watch your life transform for the better
